CJ Hendry's Flower Market Is Coming to Hong Kong — And It's the Perfect Family Day Out This March
Free entry, a flower to take home, and one of the most beautiful things you'll see all year. Here's everything you need to know
If you're looking for something genuinely special to do with the family this March — or honestly, just for yourself — then stop what you're doing and read this, because CJ Hendry's Flower Market has just announced its Hong Kong dates and we are very excited about it.
Here's the short version: a stunning greenhouse filled with over 150,000 plush flowers, right on the harbourfront, completely free to get into, and every single visitor gets a flower to take home. If you have children, they are going to absolutely love it. If you don't, you're still going to absolutely love it.
Now here's everything else you need to know.
So What Actually Is It?
CJ Hendry is an Australian artist who creates the most extraordinary hyperrealistic drawings and large-scale installations — the kind where you genuinely cannot believe a human being made them. She's previously recreated an entire New York flower market in Brooklyn and filled a desert swimming pool with 90,000 objects, and her work has attracted a devoted following all over the world.
Flower Market is her most beloved installation: a lush, colour-saturated greenhouse environment filled with plush flowers in every size and shade you can imagine. It's immersive, it's tactile, it's visually overwhelming in the most wonderful way — and this March, for the very first time in Asia, it's coming to us here in Hong Kong.
When and Where
Dates: 19–22 March 2026 — that's the Thursday through to Sunday of Art Basel week, so it fits beautifully into any Art Month plans you might be making.
Location: AIA Vitality Park, 33 Man Kwong Street, Central Harbourfront. Right on the water, with that gorgeous harbour view behind it. It really is one of the loveliest spots in the city.
Getting there: Take the MTR to Hong Kong Station (Exit F) or Central Station (Exit A) and follow the harbourfront promenade — it's an easy, flat walk that's very manageable with a pram or small children in tow. Honestly the walk along the water is half the fun.
Is It Really Free?
Yes, it really is! Admission is completely free for everyone. The one thing you do need to do — and please don't skip this step — is register in advance online and bring your e-ticket with you on the day. There are no walk-ins, so if you forget to register you won't be able to get in, and that would be a genuine shame.
Each registered visitor also gets one complimentary plush flower to take home, which if you have little ones is going to be a very big deal indeed. Additional flowers are available to buy inside for HK$38 each, which we think is extremely reasonable for something this lovely.
How to Get Your Tickets
Head to the official Flower Market event website and register your spot as soon as possible — this is going to be popular and slots will go quickly, especially at the weekend. Public registration opened on 4 March 2026, so if you're reading this, it's time to get moving.
Our advice: if you can manage a Thursday or Friday visit, go then. The weekend sessions are going to be busy, and a quieter weekday visit means more space for little ones to wander and more time for you to actually take it all in.
The Bits Made Especially for Hong Kong
Two of the flowers in the installation were designed exclusively for this visit, which makes the Hong Kong edition feel extra special.
The Henderson Flower was created to celebrate the 50th birthday of Henderson Land, the lovely people who are making this whole event possible. And the Bauhinia — our very own Hong Kong emblem flower, rendered in Hendry's gorgeous plush style — is something we think is going to be genuinely moving to see in person. It's a real love letter to this city and to everyone who lives here.
Is It Good for Kids?
Absolutely, yes. The installation is tactile, colourful and completely accessible — there's nothing fragile to worry about breaking, and the sheer scale and colour of the space is going to delight children of all ages. The complimentary flower at the end is a lovely touch that means everyone goes home happy.
A few practical notes for parents: the harbourfront location is flat and easy to navigate, the walk from the MTR is simple, and the greenhouse format means the experience is contained and manageable even with smaller children. We'd suggest going earlier in the day if you can, before it gets too warm and before the crowds build up.
Making a Day of It
The Central Harbourfront is one of those parts of Hong Kong that genuinely rewards a slower pace. Once you've seen the installation, take a walk along the promenade, grab a coffee, let the children run around by the water for a bit. If you're making a full Art Month day of it, the galleries in Central and Sheung Wan are easily reachable and many have family-friendly shows on during this period.
Art Basel week can feel a little overwhelming and insider-y at times, but Flower Market is a wonderful reminder that the best cultural experiences in this city are the ones that belong to all of us.
